The Hangover ride to Lake Mead at Interbike Outdoor Demo

At Bootleg Canyon Scott Bikes and Mavic (along with some help from other manufacturers because of the size of the group) equipped a mixed group with high end speed machines, witnessing the roll out of the ride was like watching the start line rollout of a pro race. Americans, Italians, French, Swiss and every other nationality, all with sunkissed olive colored skin, colorful riding kits and exotic steeds, all brought together by one simple commonality, bicycling... No wars were fought this morning, no ill will, each person enjoying each other's company and the beauty of the morning...

Fast descents and beautiful scenery make the Scott, Mavic Hangover ride a joy

A local tour guide led the peloton out of Boulder City in the direction of Henderson with the Mavic support vehicle tagging behind to supply wheels, tubes and a quick wrench in the event that it became necessary. The tight pack riding, high end bikes and pro-level support lent to a feel of being a rider in the Pro Circuit except the pace was relaxed and the group was there to enjoy the sites instead of merely making a mad dash for the finishline.

Curving along the mountains, sailing down in altitude the ride descends roughly 1200 feet over the first 25 miles. Winding through smoothly paved unblemished streets lined with palm trees and past the Black Hills. The route cuts through reddish sandstone mountains and jaggedly hewn, yucca covered landscapes. As the peloton approached Lake Mead, it gathered both mass and momentum.

A road clogging peloton approaches Lake Mead on the Hangover Ride

Local riders joined our cyclo-cluster to form a massive street clogging tract of cyclists that stretched just shy of a quarter mile. But as is true with pro racing, hills break open the pack and the pull apart the field. Past the glassy mirror surface of Lake Mead the climbing began. What started as a gentle slope rapidly grew into an all out climb for the length of terrain that ground up past Black Mountain and rode back into Boulder City. Topping the 1500 foot straight out climb, each rider found an Outdoor Demo in full swing with plenty of recovery aids available to sample, including GU2O, Honey Stinger, Enduroshot, Cytomax, Hammer Gels and many more. It all kind of make you crazy long hard scenic rides just for the hopes of needing recovery.

The hangover rider at Interbike Outdoor Demo proves to be an awesome experience
