The morning broke just as we had expected, crummy! At 5:58 AM Dan started the chain by logging onto the forums and proclaiming, "It ain't rainin' where I am so the ride is on!

Gary seconded his sentiments and a band of stalwart souls set out for Long Beach in pursuit of cycling thrills! And what thrills there were! There was the spontaneous celebration of comeraderie with the group photo ops. There was the gentle kidding when certain ride leaders got distracted for a few minutes, but all in all, everybody stood there gripping their bike handles, waiting for the rain to start! Well it never did!

The pace was set exactly as it was advertised and the ride was leisurely! Even Mopar man, a highly skilled and aggressive Mountain Biker proclaimed, "It is really nice to be on a ride which actually runs at the advertised pace. You said leisurely and this sure its leisurely!"

We have talked about Long Beach many times on these and other pages and once you get there it provides one of the most picturesque rides on the South Shore of Long Island. That goes for the bay side as well as the surf. So our tiny band of seven riders circumnavigated the best that Long Beach has to offer and when all was said and done, everyone agreed that they had had a good time.

It would have to be mentioned that a couple of things were a little different about this run compared to some of the others. First of all, nearly all the bikes present were Mountain Bikes, except for Dan's, and this made both the rougher pavement and the jarring boards of the boardwalk a lot more comfortable. Secondly there was the WIND. As we headed east along the boardwalk, Mother Nature did her very best to send us back west. None the less our little group just put their heads down and pedaled onward eventually reaching the eastern terminus of the boards! Practically everybody smiled and vowed to come out again.

That evening our group met up again in Farmingdale at the Black Forest Brew Haus to sample some fairly decent German food and more importantly (for this writer at least) some representative German brews.

If you take the time to study the photos on these pages you will note that although some of the folks appear in both the morning and evening activities, many of the faces appear at only one or the other.

To see the original images, more of the images which were not used on these pages, or to upload your pictures own pictures from the ride, please visit our gallery.

That is what we want to stress to every member and potential member of the Pedal Pushers. It's never about what you can't do, It's always about what you can do. So if you can make only one ride through the year, or if you can only manage to participate through the Members' Forums, you are still a member of Pedal Pushers Online. Of course we want you to be active and join us as often as you can. But, never, never, feel that you shouldn't participate, just because you can "only participate a little." Our group is about Joining when you can. It's never about explaining why you can't.

So next time, c'mon down and have some fun! Our next and final Friendship Ride for the season is scheduled for 10/25/03. We hope to see you there! Or if you feel like a little more of a challenge, check the events page for our schedule of more "Aerobic Rides."
