Just days after his return from the Tour of Spain I was able to catch up with Big Mag (Magnus Bäckstedt - Team Slipstream Rider from Sweden) in Las Vegas at Interbike:
Ray Storm: Are you enjoying Las Vegas so far?
Magnus Bäckstedt: So far it's been good here, I got in late last night and basically headed straight to bed.
I finished the tour of Spain on Sunday and more or less got straight on the plane to fly out here. So I'm a little bit tired after having spent three weeks on the road and then flying out here. But that's good I really enjoy coming out here.
RS: How do you feel about your results in the Tour of Spain?
MB: I'm pretty happy with them. It's been a tough year, I started out with injuries and that sort of thing. Then I just got better and better for everyday I was racing out there. So I finished quite well.
RS: Any plans for the off season?
MB: Yes, when I get back from here, I'll jump straight on the track. I've got a four day training (session) coming up with the national team, and basically trying to prepare for the World Cups on the track this winter and obviously getting ready for the Classics next year.
RS: Do you have any expectations for the World Cups on the track this year?
MB: I definitely want to qualify for the Olympics on the track and I think as long as I can try and stay in one piece and stay healthy then I should manage to get down to some pretty good times on the 4K pursuit. That's ultimately what I'm looking for, so hopefully I'll be able to get a podium appearance in the world cups.
RS: I look forward watching you in the World Cups!
