Interbike is many things, it is the dust, sand, wind, and heat of the outdoor demo, and it is expansive aisles of glittering Bike Lust objet d' art that seem to go on forever. But to the industry insiders there is another Interbike. Here in the mecca where "What happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas" we are letting the cat out of the bag. Interbike is also the realm of the quiet "grapevine party."
It is not uncommon for manufacturers distributors etc to host "After Parties." Some are publicly announced and others are word of mouth only but often they are by invite only in order to provide a meeting venue or thank you to supporters, allied companies and retailers.
But tonight, DeFeet turned a corner. For three solid hours, sockologist and company owner Shane Cooper along with his band, "Triple KrankS," delivered a non-stop 80's musical review. As the hours slipped by party goers were treated to some of the best dancers and enthusiastic party goers this reporter has seen at any Interbike Party.
Hosted by Coolmax and Defeet, sponsored by Lycra, Pierson Construction, and Cordura - the Mandalay Bay, House of Blues witnessed a steadily growing stream of bicycle industry revelers. The festivities were kicked off by the DeFeet general manager Paul Willerton, who admonished the crowd to party as hard as they work. Which, if the partying was any indication, is pretty hard indeed. But the tune that brought down the house was the one that the president dedicated to his staff and company in remembrance of the loss of the factory to fire and their resurrection, "Burning Down The House."
So as Interbike attendees scurry around looking for their after parties, those who attended the DeFeet fete' will already be a step up and cool to the max! Look for some very interesting announcements coming from DeFeet shortly regarding their new CoolMax and Cordura Blends in their Cloud Nine Product Launch.
